Leaders break bread
Australia’s political and religious leaders convened inside Parliament House for the seventh ACU Interfaith Parliamentary Breakfast.
For the first time in its seven-year history, the Interfaith Breakfast was co-hosted by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Milton Dick MP.
In welcoming guests to Parliament House, Mr Dick said Australia’s national identity was tied closely with the country’s diverse religious and faith communities sitting in the room.
‘When we all serve together, we can build stronger and resilient communities of mutual trust and most importantly respect,’ he said.
Moves to protect Australians from illegal and restricted online content
Australia’s eSafety Commissioner has commenced public consultation on draft industry standards requiring tech companies to do more to tackle seriously harmful content, including online child sexual abuse material and pro-terror content.

Beware of rising covid cases
Amid a surge in Covid-19 cases, experts are warning Australians to remain vigilant and ensure their vaccination status is up to date.
Professor James Trauer is Head of the Epidemiological Modelling Unit for the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University.
He said we are currently experiencing a significant wave of transmission in Australia.
‘Vaccination remains our most important defence against Covid, even though the virus shouldn’t ruin Christmas this year’.
Employers steal hundreds of hours from workers each year
Despite record-low unemployment, Australian employers are still managing to steal more than 280 hours from their employees each year. That’s the finding of the Australia Institute’s 2023 report, Short Changed, tracking annual work hours and unpaid overtime.
It has also found the average worker is losing out financially to unpaid overtime.
Thanking First Nations elders
The Term 4 Indigenous Liaison Officers (ILO) Network Day in Cairns recognised a commitment to nurturing and growing the genius of First Nations students in Catholic Education.
Catholic Education Diocese of Cairns Executive Director Bill Dixon and Indigenous Elders from communities as far as the Torres Straits, Cape York, Herberton, Innisfail and Cairns surrounding areas met to acknowledge and celebrate Elders who impart wisdom and cultural knowledge to young people and staff in schools and colleges across the Catholic Education Diocese of Cairns.
