Gaming the Gospels - Teachings of Jesus Christ Charades

Laura Kings 23 November 2023

What was Jesus trying to tell us anyway? Get an idea by playing this amusing and timeless game.

How to play:
•    Participants work in pairs.
•    Write down various teachings of Jesus Christ on slips of paper.
•    Participant pairs take turns choosing a slip and acting out the teaching without speaking, while the rest of the group guesses which quote from the list.
•    Discuss the teachings after each charade.

A list of teachings
•  John 14:6: Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
•  Matthew 6:33: ‘But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.’
• Matthew 5:16 - ‘In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.’

• Matthew 7:7-8 - ‘Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
• Matthew 22:37-40 - Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.’
• Luke 6:31 - Do to others as you would have them do to you.
• John 10:10 - The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
• John 10:10-11 - I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
•  John 6:35 - Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
• John 15:5 - I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
• Matthew 7:1 - Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
• Matthew 7:1 - No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
• Matthew 4:19 - Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people’.
• Mark 11:24 - Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
• Mark 11:25 - And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.
