Sneaky Jesus song: All I am

Brendan Nicholls  |  01 October 2018

All I Am’ is a pre-release single for Jess’ second album Always In Between. This catchy track has already reached #1 in the UK. Although this single has not climbed above the top 30 on the Australian charts at present, its appeal should see it make the top 10 in the ARIA charts if it gets the airplay it should. Jess’ contemporary sound and her relatable lyrics will certainly be a winner with listeners in Australia.

The song is a fitting anthem for those deeply in love. On a secular plane, the song speaks of the deep commitment we experience in love shared with another.

In the Catholic Tradition espoused by St Ignatius of Loyola, we come to a point where the lyrics of this song match their personal relationship with Jesus.

For those who follow the St Ignatius’ spiritual legacy, the song is a perfect parallel to one’s journey through the Spiritual Exercises, as it captures the union and freedom that comes from placing Jesus at the centre of existence. Although less common in contemporary theology, bridal mysticism is also clearly apparent in the lyrics of this song.

We pray for all artists who help us find God in the wonder of their art. We pray especially for Jess Glynne. May she experience success in every way and continue to produce music that inspires people for many years to come. We pray that all people may encounter you Jesus in their everyday lives Lord, come to love you and that you become ‘All I Am’ for all people.
