Reflection questions and activities for 'A World Youth Day pilgrim’s song'

Clare Deignan  |  14 May 2016

Read the article 'A World Youth Day pilgrim’s song' and answer the following questions. Then share your answers in pairs, small groups or in a classroom discussion.

1. Teaghan Pugsley first went to World Youth Day at the age of 12. Why do you think she says she'll get more out of it now that she’s older?

2. Why is it important for young Catholics' faith to be nourished by other young Catholics?

3. Teaghan’s friends have different beliefs and levels of faith. She says, ‘I think it’s really good to have conversations, just to decide for yourself what you believe in. I think it makes those beliefs stronger.’ Do you agree with her? Why or why not?

4. In what ways do you think our world needs more mercy? Why?

5. Travel inspires Teaghan. What inspires you?

Activities

1. Sharing beliefs: Interview two of your closest friends about their faith and beliefs. You can ask them what is their religion, their views on morality and social justice or just their beliefs on life.

After you're finished interviewing them, write a one-page reflection on what you learned from your friends' faith and beliefs.

If you feel comfortable, read your reflection to your class.

2. Youth group: Check out or join the youth group in your parish or if there isn’t a youth group, talk to your parish priest about starting a youth group in your parish.

For younger students

Inspire: Write a poem or song about a time that you were in a new or uncomfortable situation, but that through it you experience growth. When you are finished, you can share your inspired piece with your class.
