Gaming the Gospels: The wisdom of the prophets

30 October 2019

This is a game of ‘two truths and a lie’ for upper primary or lower secondary students, requiring the use of bibles.

Divide students into four groups. Ask each group to compile some wisdom from one of the four major prophets in the Old Testament (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel). Then ask the groups to put together a set number of flash cards, containing two of the quotes and a third made-up quote (in random order). Each group then takes it in turn to read out one of their cards to another group. If the other group correctly identifies the made-up quote, they get a point. If they don’t, the group who read out the card gets a point. After each group has gone through their quotes, tally up the points to find a winner.

After the exercise, ask the students how they went about trying to judge which words were true and which were false? Were they successful in their strategies? What have they learned about Biblical wisdom from playing this game?
