Gaming the Gospels: Mary and Martha

07 August 2019

Read the story of Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38 – 42). Discuss with the students the perspectives of both Mary and Martha in this story.

What happens when they have a party at home? Does everyone help out? Or do some people do more than others?

Get the students in groups of five, in a circle holding each other’s hands.

Give each circle a balloon, and challenge them to see how many times they can ‘tap’ the balloon to keep it in the air – while still keeping the circle intact.

Afterwards, talk to them about how they went about keeping the balloon in the air. How did working together help them do it longer? What would have happened if Mary and Martha had worked together better?
