Are you aware of any 2020 Year 10 or 11 students interested in a career in media or publishing? Here’s an opportunity for them to be a guest editor or interstate correspondent in our media internship program.

First launched in 2011, the Australian Catholics media internship program offers students the opportunity to spend a week learning from professionals in the media and publishing fields, while planning and writing articles for the Spring edition of the magazine.

Students based in Melbourne have the opportunity to join our editorial team in our offices, while those from regional Victoria and interstate can join us remotely via phone or videoconferencing.

The program is a unique work experience opportunity for students involved in media and publishing. Students involved have the opportunity to see how a magazine comes about, taking part in the initial planning and brainstorming, and considering all the elements that make up an engaging publication. They then have the opportunity to work on their own articles for the edition – doing interviews, conducting research and exploring interesting ways to engage readers.

During the week the students also have the opportunity to engage with guest speakers: professional editors and journalists who have been working in the field for many years; younger media professionals who are starting out in new and creative ways; as well as hearing about visual storytelling from professional photographers and/or designers.

The 2020 internship program runs from 11 to 15 May. After the edition is published, students and teachers are then welcomed to a special launch event in late August.
