Jesuit Social Services - standing in solidarity with those in need. Prayer and spirituality for today's Christian. A magazine of public affairs, the arts and theology. The Australian Catholic community on line - a guide to schools, services and people in the Australian Catholic community. Homesite for the Australian council for refugees. This site features a profile on students working towards reconciliation between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians. The site of the Australian Catholic Social Justice Council features excellent statements and ways you can respond to issues. Also has great prayer and liturgy resources focussing on issues of peace, justice and reconciliation. Hosted by Fraynework, the multimedia project of the Sisters of Mercy, this site features the stories of indigenous Australians healing their past and embracing hope for new life. Youth Challenge Australia is hosted by the University of Technology, Sydney. YCA is a volunteer program for young Australians wishing to donate their time and energy both here and overseas. The home site for Pax Christi, the international Catholic peace movement, hosts a chat room for young people looking to find out more about conflict prevention, peace education and human rights. As kids journeying through Lent the Project Compassion box on the kitchen bench was a simple yet powerful reminder of those living without. It was a tangible call to be in solidarity with others. Caritas' website shows what a difference such small actions can make and provides excellent information on projects such as clearing landmines through to unemployment and addressing third world debt. The Edmund Rice Centre, a ministry of the Christian Brothers, hosts an excellent site featuring facts on the status of asylum seekers (and shattering a few myths in the process), fostering ethical business practice and reconciliation. Aid to the Church in Need. A Catholic charity dependent on the Holy See, providing pastoral relief to needy and oppressed churches. CARE International's site - has a link to Australian page. This site clarifies exactly who a refugee is and the rights and obligations of countries under the UN's Convention. At a general audience on January 30, 2001 the Pope, reflecting on Psalm 18, referred to the universe as 'another sacred book' that, together with the Bible, allows humanity to discover God. The text also includes an excellent reflection on the meaning of Easter. Check out the full text at the site, follow the links to 'Wednesday's audience'. Discover the full impact of recent fires in NSW on the local environment and efforts towards rehabilitation. www.science.org.au/nova/032/032sit.htm This site, hosted by the Australian Academy of Science looks at ways the scientific community is seeking to address the problem of soil salinity, protecting human genetic information and foster sustainable agriculture.
