Six students from Catholic schools around Melbourne have been hard at work this week planning articles for the Spring edition and learning about publishing on our media internship program.

The students are spending a week at the Australian Catholics offices in Melbourne, working with editors Michael McVeigh and Fr Andrew Hamilton SJ, and learning from professionals in the field.

Our guest editors for the youth edition are:

Elise Ho – St Aloysius College, North Melbourne

Kyla Dwyer – Kilbreda College, Mentone

Abbey Maffescioni – St Ignatius College, Geelong

Chiara Fankhauser – St Ignatius College, Geelong

Mieke de Vries – Avila College, Mt Waverley

Beatrice van Rest – Avila College, Mt Waverley

This year’s youth edition is focusing on ‘Family’, and the students have been planning and writing a range of articles exploring the theme.

Keep an eye out for the edition, which will be out in late August.

More opportunities for young writers

The Australian Catholics Young Journalist Award has a little over a week left to run. Students in Years 5 to 9 are invited to submit an article on the theme ‘The journey of a family’, for the chance to be published in the Spring youth edition. Find out more here.

Meanwhile, young people aged 15 to 25 interested in writing for Australian Catholics are invited to join our young writers community. Send us an email at [email protected] to have your name added to our list and stay informed about upcoming editions and other writing opportunities.
