Gaming the Gospels: ‘Jesus says’

 |  31 October 2016

Get a group of students queued up like you would for ‘Simon says’. But instead we are going to play ‘Jesus says.’ The teacher or leader should have about 20 to 30 of Jesus’ sayings or teachings (that a student could act out) prepared. (They can be paraphrased.)

The teacher or leader will pose commands to the students such as: ‘Jesus says, “Turn the other cheek.”’ (Students will then turn their face to show they are turning the other cheek.) ‘Jesus says, “Take the plank out of your own eye.”’ (Students will pretend to remove a plank from their eye.) ‘Jesus says, “Give your last coin”’ (Students will act out taking a coin out of the pocket or purse.)

Then to make sure they are listening, the leader or teacher could say, ’Poke your tongue out’. The students that do that would be 'out'.

This is a great way to familiarise younger students with Jesus’ teachings and have a bit of fun.
